THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS AN ORDINARY DAY

Solelim's incredible programming is what our campers love best about us.

TENT LIVING

Tent living is a defining feature of the Solelim experience. Each tent can accommodate up to six campers: most tents will have a mix of Rookies and Posts. Every tent is assigned one or two staff as “tent parents;” and while they do not live in the tent with the campers, tent parents are responsible for checking in with their campers daily and for organizing special tent time activities throughout the summer. Made with a concrete base and a wood frame, our tents are sturdy and comfortable. All of our canvas tents are equipped with beds, electricity, windows, and a rain fly, making them a cozy summer home.

WHY OUR CAMPERS LOVE LIVING IN TENTS

  • Living in smaller groups and within different age groups breaks down social cliques and creates a greater sense of community

  • No counsellors in the tent promotes independence and responsibility

  • Tent living brings them closer to nature – nothing compares to falling asleep to rain beating on the canvas, or waking up to the smell of fresh dew and birch trees!

ACTIVITIES

Campers can choose their own adventure when it comes to their daily programming. Add wacky evening programs, incredible special days and our one of a kind "reality shows" and you have all you need for an unforgettable summer.

VALUES & LEADERSHIP

If you will it, it is no dream...

SHABBAT

It's the smell of fresh baked Challah from the chadar. It's watching the sunset from the beach with your arms around your best friends. It's losing your voice singing songs at the top of your lungs and then dancing to Israeli top 40 until you can't feel your feet anymore. It's Saturday morning sleep-ins and cinnamon buns. It's taking the time to reflect on all you accomplished last week and looking forward to what lies ahead. Shabbat at Solelim is about forming your own special traditions and feeling a part of something bigger.

HADRACHA: LEADERSHIP TRAINING

Every week, campers meet in small groups for Hadracha. They engage in activities and discussions that enable them to enhance leadership skills such as teamwork, communication, critical thinking, perseverance, self-confidence and more. Hadracha helps bring campers together and alumni often credit their Hadracha experiences as excellent preparation for taking on leadership roles in school, work and the community.

MUSAGS: VALUES IN REAL LIFE

In Hebrew, Musag means "obtained". Five mornings a week, campers are challenged through fun and thought provoking programming to broaden their perspectives about issues affecting themselves and the world around them. Musags give campers an opportunity to express themselves, consider alternative viewpoints and form their own opinions. Musags cover a broad spectrum of relevant topics ranging from the impact of technology, to current events, to ethical dilemmas. Through our musag programs, campers explore how Jewish values add meaning to their own lives.

ISRAEL AT CAMP

Israel plays a big part of Camp Solelim's history. Named after the Hebrew word for "road pavers", Solelim's roots are connected to the young Israeli pioneers who helped build the Jewish homeland. We bring Israel to camp in many ways: through using Hebrew to name our buildings and parts of our daily schedule, special programming like Israel Day, our Shinshinim (Israeli staff members) and Israeli campers who join us each summer.

MADE FROM THE BEST STAFF ON EARTH

Solelim staff put all of their passion and energy into ensuring that campers get the most out of their summer. Almost all of our staff were campers here themselves and most staff stay at camp for four to five years. They return summer after summer to help our campers grow to become strong and confident: to be their role models and to give guidance when needed.

Our staff are trained to handle challenging situations when they arise. They spend all year designing creative and fun programs that help our campers grow, learn about themselves and one another.
